Resumo

This study aims to identify both the Geographical Indications (GIs) of the State of Amazonas granted by the INPI and potential GIs, considering that this kind of recognition/concession seeks, among other objectives, to promote regional development through the involvement of various actors such as producers, class entities, companies, all responsible for boosting this development. The research points out that GIs show up as a generator of benefits for the local economy and determine the quality and reputation of products and services, especially for the Amazon region, rich in biodiversity and with a vast possibility of developing new products and services derived from the use of its natural resources. The research approach is qualitative and exploratory, supported by bibliographic sources which favored the broad understanding and reflections on the subject. Data were gathered from National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and Brazilian Digital Library Network of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). The results showed eight (8) GIs for Amazonas, six (6) granted and two (2) pending approval the INPI, between the period from October 2020 to January 2023. The models applied for the Diagnosis of Geographical Indications and the potential GIs for the State of Amazonas were also described, through which it was possible to infer that the State has the potential to obtain new GIs and the need for more engagement by the actors involved to leverage the usefulness of the GIs already granted.
