Resumo

Technological advances have driven evolution, innovation and development over the last century. In this way, there is a greater demand for quality, quantity and speed, which in the mechanical industry is, among other factors, linked to the improvement of the physical and mechanical properties of the tools, achieved with different heat treatment techniques. With the aim of identifying scientific productions regarding the use of cryogenic treatment in tool steels, to change mechanical properties and consequently increase the competitiveness of industries, a specialized investigation was carried out in the identification of scientific articles indexed in the Web of Science database. The study mapped scientific productions to verify and understand the context of publications that address this topic. It should be noted that in the last ten years there has been a significant increase in interest in the subject, with the majority of publications coming from India, followed by China. Brazilian records are insignificant and there is a predominance of the English language in scientific publications. Most of the studies are concentrated in the areas of Multidisciplinary Materials Science, Metallurgy – Metallurgical Engineering and Engineering. The authors "Jurci, P." and "Podornik, B" are highlighted as those that produce the most studies specific to the proposed topic. Furthermore, it is possible to highlight that, given the different factors that influence the mechanical results of cryogenically treated steels, new studies that analyze the most effective techniques in guaranteeing the properties of these metals, as well as innovative possibilities in this area, are opportunities for future investigations.
