POTENTIAL FOR GEOGRAPHIC INDICATION OF HONEY FROM THE EXTREME SOUTH OF BAHIA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SEBRAE METHODOLOGY

Resumo

The granting of Geographical Indication Registration is attributed to products or services that have distinctive characteristics associated primarily with their geographical origin, including their reputation and quality. Given the potential benefits, such as increasing the value of local production and stimulating economic growth, this study aims to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a Geographical Indication for honey from the extreme south of Bahia, in locations such as Alcobaça, Caravelas, Mucuri and Nova Viçosa. Through bibliographical research, document analysis and in-depth interviews with leaders of associations linked to the sector, it was verified the existence of a notable honey production in the city of Alcobaça and the concrete possibility of obtaining registration in the Denomination of Honey category. Origin. This, in turn, will bring various benefits to the entire region involved.
